HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENTS AND HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT OF MULTIPLE TECHNOLOGIES

Report containing systematic study of literature, with evidence, efficacy and safety researches with the aim of establishing a recommendation(s) for a specific health technology(ies). It is prepared in accordance with the “Methodological Guidelines for the Preparation of Technical and Scientific Advice for the Ministry of Health.”

HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENTS FOR EVALUATION OF MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Report containing systematic study of literature, with evidence, efficacy and safety researches with the aim of establishing a recommendation (s) in a specific health technology(ies). It is prepared in accordance with the “Medical Care Methodological Guidelines for the Preparation Study for Evaluation of Equipment” of the Ministry of Health.

SYSTEMATIC REVIEWS

Report containing a study that answers a clearly formulated question using systematic and explicit methods to identify, select and evaluate critically relevant research. Data from included studies are collected and presented in summary form.

Statistical methods (meta-analysis) may or may not be used to analyze and summarize the results, depending on the homogeneity of the included studies. It is prepared in accordance with the “Methodological Guidelines for preparing a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials” of the Ministry of Health.

STUDIES OF COMPARATIVE CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS (REAL WORLD RESEARCH)

Report containing description and results of a study that evaluates the effectiveness of health technologies. Effectiveness is the beneficial effect of the treatments in the real world off controlled conditions, as is the case of clinical trials.

In these studies, groups of patients are exposed to different treatments and the researcher is not involved in decision making for prescribers and patients, being an observer of the changes/results of the groups over time.

May be retrospective or prospective, can be conducted with the direct monitoring of patients or through analysis of medical records and/or of administrative database health.

STUDIES ON THE ECONOMIC EVALUATION OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGIES

Report containing a study of economic evaluation – cost-minimization ; cost-benefit; cost-effectiveness; or cost-utility. Performed from cost and effect data on the literature and databases, when available. It is designed according to the “Methodological Guidelines for economic evaluation studies of health technologies.”

BUDGET IMPACT STUDIES

Report containing a budget impact study from the methods of economic evaluation of financial consequences arising from the adoption of a new health technology within a given scenario. Presupposes the existence of available data on cost-effectiveness and estimated coverage. It is prepared in accordance with the “Methodological Guidelines for Budget Impact Analysis: Handbook for the Health System in Brazil”, the Ministry of Health.

Technical Notes Rapid preparation opinion containing a clarification on a subject that needs an expert opinion. It is developed based on literature review and/or panel with expert opinion on the subject. Presupposes a clear, concise and objective demand.

TRAINING COURSES AND TRAINING

Short courses in technology assessment, such as: preparation of systematic reviews and meta-analyzes, conduct and evaluation of economic studies.

TECHNICAL NEWSLETTERS

Material for dissemination of scientific information on health technology in appropriate language for health professionals, patients and the community.

VIDEO CLASSES

Development of lessons on various topics such as:

 Evidence-based medicine;

 Therapeutic Guidelines and Clinical Protocols;

 Guidelines for development studies by the Ministry of Health;

 Conducting epidemiological studies, for example, systematic reviews.
